Repentance

[Sutra of Making Statues]:
‘By making one Buddha statue, various sins are totally eliminated.’
‘Repentance does not rely on quantity, one must grasp the vision of sin purification.’
  1. Recite the [Hundred Syllables] - one hundred thousand times.
  2. Make a small sized tower.
  3. Draw the Guru, the Yidam, various statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors and Dakinis.
  4. Chant the [Thirty-Five Buddhas Repentance Text].
 
The heart must:
  1. Expose and confess thoroughly all sins already committed. When facing the terror of karmic consequences, engender a sincere heart and never repeat the sins again.
  2. Chanting mantra in a muddled way, without a sincere heart, even lots of repentance is of no use. (Repentance in term of Practice).
  3. Maintain the body and mind in a state of emptiness, always refrain from committing wrongdoings, is the best policy (Repentance in term of Principle).
  4. Repentance in term of Principle is wisdom, by which sin can be eliminated forever once repent. However, if a practitioner has not attained the Stage of “Emptiness”, it is difficult to eradicate the sin to its full scale. Although Repentance in terms of Practice belongs to low level, it is still a kind of good fortune and virtue. Using accumulated merits to offset sins may not thoroughly purify the sins; however, immediate effectiveness can be gained.
