To make it simple, wisdom can be classified into two categories, namely ‘spiritual world (in Buddhism) wisdom’ and ‘world (in daily life) wisdom’.
‘Spiritual world wisdom’ is attained through cultivating the ‘Eightfold Noble Path’, the ‘Six Paramitas’ etc. The manifestation of the real wisdom is to let one understand as well as comprehend everything(in the universe) and discover the principles behind. It is the recondite wisdom. In order to reach the other shore(to achieve Buddhahood), Bodhisattva must practise the ‘Six Paramitas’. Among the six paramitas, Prajna(wisdom), which is also called ‘Mother of all Buddhas’, serves to lay the foundation stone for the other five paramitas. Thus, ‘spiritual world wisdom’ is supra-mundane and absolute in nature. It places in the most important status, is conclusively the capability to clearly understand the truths in cosmic inventory which eventually leads to the attainment of Buddhahood. Therefore, the significance of the wisdom can be seen.
Talking about wisdom, everyone seems to be attracted and tends to go after it like a flock of ducks. Its meaning is easily found in any primary-pupil dictionaries picked at random. It is generally explained as: ‘cleverness and eloquent talent’. What is the explanation of ‘world wisdom’ from the point of view of Buddhism? In dictionaries of Buddhism, the explanation is: ‘world wisdom’ is a secular and relative wisdom found in both worldly people and heretics who produce different dhyana (conditioned-minds) in Buddha dharma. Consequently, they carry discriminative thoughts in all Buddha dharma and are always clung to either ‘existence’ or ‘nil’ that stop them from exiting the present world. This kind of wisdom is asrava wisdom(remark: asrava refers to the influence of body and mind causing the soul to generate karma) which is mostly originated from secular circumstances.
How can wisdom be possessed? Some say that it is inherent(remarks: born with); some say that it is accumulated bit by bit while some others think that it is aroused from one’s potentials…. It has been already a racking experience for the editor to ponder writing this piece of preface due to limitation in intelligence. Thus, we fully understand that it is out of our capacities to discuss wisdom with all of you. We hereby have sincerely chosen some inspiring parables(analogies) to share with instead hoping that the Wisdom Plaza of our website will be filled with ‘omega 3’ (an element inside food that helps initiate wisdom) in order to accelerate the development of our brains. Let’s enjoy and grasp together the amazing profundities hidden inside these stories below!
