Somnambulism, a kind of Schizophrenia
In Esoteric Buddhism, there is a book called《The Profound Inner Principles
甚深內義根本頌》(remark: it was written by the third Karmapa Rangjung Dorje, 1284-1339 and the English edition translated by Elizabeth M. Callahan which was published in 2014) which talks about theories of Nadis (the channels through which energy of the body is said to flow
氣脈). Comparing these theories with the ones in similar Chinese books, namely《Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon/Nei Jing
內經》and《Yellow Court Classic/Huang Ting Jing
黃庭經》etc., each of them has its own unique part/parts. Though both
Tibetan Tantra and Taoism advocate the cultivation of Nadis, there is one thing which demands special attention. It is the technique of ‘
looking at oneself through a mirror’. No matter whether it is (the practice of the one mentioned in) Esoteric Buddhism or ‘Yin Shen Shu
陰神術’ of Chinese Taoism, it is
very easy to cause Somnambulism which is a kind of Schizophrenia.
Never try such kind of practice readily as it
must only be carried out under the guidance of experienced and enlightened Guru.
