Succeeding Buddha Maitreya to be the sixth Buddha

The Holiness, Karmapa (聖者噶瑪巴) is the first Living Buddha in history who continued Buddhism in the form of reincarnation. In Samadhiraja Sutra (【三摩地王經】), it is recorded that Buddha Sakyamuni (釋迦牟尼佛) has bestowed a prophecy that Karmapa, as the one who ‘knows the three generations well’ and ‘witnesses the Acts of the Buddha’, would succeed Buddha Maitreya to be the sixth Buddha, titled ‘Simha Tathagata’ (「獅子吼如來」).
