When a person becomes furious, the body will generate a kind of negative substance. |

Psychologists performed an experiment. When a person was venting anger, the substance in one's blood was injected into the body of a mouse. The mouse was observed for a short period of time. The result was that the mouse died. |

American clinical psychologist Dr. Mowrer discovered that when a person is angry or is in a very bad temper, it causes harm to the body. The human brain will secrete chemical substances (now proven that there are 37 types), and one of them is ‘endorphin’. This is the amino compound secreted from the pituitary gland (腦下垂體) and the hypothalamus/under the thalamus (丘腦下部) of vertebrates, which can combine with morphine receptor to create the same painless and euphoria feelings as that of morphine. It is similar to a natural painkiller, and is a kind of morphine that is produced by the organism itself. When one is infuriated, the brain experiences huge pressure, and endorphin can effectively help relax one’s mind; however, there are side-effects. Hence, if one can relax through laughter and exercise, to reduce the secretion of endorphin in the brain, it will firstly enhance the natural physical and psychological relaxed feelings, and will secondly reduce damage to the brain cells, which means reducing damage to oneself. |

Human being's physiology is absolutely dominated by one’s psychology, as character affects behaviour. Some people are arrogant and unruly, and often become angry (for example, the princess has a temper tantrum 小姐發脾氣/ to have a princess’s temper tantrum 發小姐脾氣), thus this forms of having a temper tantrum habitually (慣性發脾氣). As Chinese Cantonese people saying goes : having a habitual temper tantrum (發慣脾氣)/ having a rotten temper (發臭脾氣). Why does one have a habitual temper tantrum? This is due to the fact that the endorphin secreted is morphine within the brain, it is ‘addictive’; once ‘addicted’, more endorphin is needed (morphine), as such, one is intermittently throwing a temper tantrum, it becomes a vicious cycle as losing one’s temper becomes a habit. Initially, it may be an interval of once a month; gradually, it evolves to every seven days, and even to every three days. ‘Addiction’ comes (endorphin is needed), for no reason or purpose, with a just little trace of an external factor or a sudden loss of control, and loss of temper. It is like the Chinese saying, to have a small feast every three days and a big feast every seven days. The inner mind is unbalanced; the internal secretion is also unbalanced. |

Speaking from the point of view of Buddhism, the seed of losing one’s temper is the consciousness deep in the body and mind, and the scars left behind can never be erased. When a person loses his/her temper more frequently, his/her psychological structure will gradually degenerate, the state of a peaceful mind will be lost, and he/she will easily become angry and lose temper. As the habit of getting angry bears a hallmark on the surface of one’s mind (the seed of cause is planted), it helps inflame the dominance of repeated temper tantrum in the future, just like the saying of Yogacara (唯識學): ‘The current behaviour influences the seed, the seed creates the current behaviour’, constantly rolling, interacting, complementing each other, until one loses control in the end or beyond repair. |

Apart from endorphin, there is also the secretion of a kind of mild poison from the brain that can enter into the blood. These malignant secretions originally should have been filtered and sanitised in the liver, but sometimes as they cannot be broken down and discharged, they accumulate in the liver, and in the long run, damage the liver resulting in ‘swelling’(腫大), ‘cirrhosis’(硬化)...... (Chinese doctors say anger easily damages the liver, and this is the reason why). |

Buddha Sakyamuni teaches people to cultivate with a ‘peaceful’ inner mind. As soon as one loses one’s temperament, the malignant internal secretions will damage the memory system, all the diligently chanted mantras, and the hard-working recitation of sutra texts will gradually be forgotten. As such, one’s accumulated meritorious virtue derived from cultivation is impaired, what a pity! |

| Introduction (2) |
| ● |
Anger can easily lead to hatred, with anger and hatred becoming hooked to each other. Once the anger in mind is generated, this will gradually erode one's spirit and soul. Many people often learn an important lesson from being in a state of fury, that is, to let go! |
| |
|
| ● |
The Buddha often admonishes worldly people not to generate the mind of anger, or to engage in any conduct of violent rage; this being the preparatory practice. However, if a person cannot change oneself, then one will be handed over to be educated by the society, to develop a perfect personality out of training and to improve one’s bad habits. |
| |
|
| ● |
Often, only as a result of losing one's rationality and being in a situation beyond salvage, will one experience the destructive power of anger and the tragedy of never ending samsara. For example, within an immeasurable era, the people that you have once been angry towards or have once held hatred for, will always reunite together in such a time (the arrival of karmic destiny), to mutually revenge and kill, and hurt each other. |

| Conclusion |

● |
The flame of Rage/Anger can reduce and harm one's own cultivation, and set alight three thousand forests of merits (three thousand denotes many). |

● |
As long as one is calm, relaxed, repents, recites the mantra, meditates, and within this high levelled state one accepts the treatment of Buddha Dharma with the blessing of Buddha Strength, one can speedily learn, receive and absorb the mysteries of life; moreover, one can quickly stop the growth and spread of evil deeds, improve one's own destiny, and enhances a smooth journey of cultivation. |

Anger and hatred are vexation in the Desire Realm, leading to wrong behaviour and evil deeds. One of the Four Immeasurable Hearts of ‘View of Compassionate Heart’ can overcome anger. |
