Further Analysis of the Three Vehicles (Yanas)

(1) Emptiness (Sunyata) is not merely a theory, but it is also the experience and acknowledgement of the Buddha and Bodhisattva that bear testimony in their realm of practice.

(2) Understanding emptiness is the first step; the second step is to follow the ‘Right View’. The deciding nature in having the ‘Right View’ is, on the one hand, to achieve the high level of receptiveness and thought process, and simultaneously possess substantive level of decisive quality in perception.

(3) The Right View of the Three Vehicles
Hinayana (Lesser Vehicle) : Impermanence (Anitya) and Renunciation, Selflessness
Mahayana (Greater Vehicle) : Six Paramitas (Six Perfections), ‘Sentient beings’ ‘Dharma’ Two Forms of Selflessness
Vajrayana (Diamond Vehicle) : Seven Great Origins, Psycho-physical subtle energies (qi gong)

(4) The Five Fundamental Philosophical Views of the Three Vehicles (Right View)
  Hinayana: 1. View of  Selflessness
  Mahayana: 2. View of Mind-only (Cittamatra) (Non-absolute)
      3. View of the Middle Way (Madhyamaka) (Absolute)
Vajrayana: 4. View of Mahamudra (Great Symbol) (Absolute)
      5. View of Great Perfection (Absolute)

(5) The Four Types of Cosmic Observations of  the Three Vehicles
Hinayana: 1. Origin of Karma and Sensation
Mahayana: 2. Origin of Seed of Consciousness (Alaya) (Non-absolute Heaven)
      3. Origin of Suchness (Absolute)
Vajrayana: 4. Seven Great Origins of the Dharma-realm (Dharmadhatu) (Absolute)

(6) Breathing Methods of the Three Vehicles
  1. Hinayana
Reliance on counting technique during meditation, regulation of exhalation and inhalation of breath. Change concentration from calculation to pursuance, from stationary to observation of breath.
  2. Mahayana
The Six Wondrous Dharma Doors of Mahayana further add reversion and purification; that is, calculation, pursuance, stationary, observation, reversion and purification.
  3. Vajrayana
Emphasis on the harmonization of the five psycho-physical energies while, at the same time, manipulating the inner and outer energy channels during exit, entrance and calm abiding.
Within Vajrayana, there are generally four types of tantric paths:
l/ Accumulation Stage: Emphasis on chant and recitation, which is mantra energy(breeze).
2/ Application Stage: Emphasis on visualization, resulting in the attainment of Buddha energy(breeze).
3/ Yoga Stage: Emphasis on ‘Meditation’, whereby the psycho-physical energies are cultivated within the ‘Five-configured of Body-formation’.
4/ Highest Yoga Stage: Attainment of the psycho-physical energies, which follows in the ‘Sequential Cultivation’ of the energies. ‘Sequential Cultivation’ is also cultivation of the Yidam. Following Yidam enlightenment, there is the Second Phase Empowerment, the Third Phase Empowerment, resulting in Wisdom Energy and the Wisdom Vein *.
  * The Wisdom Energy and the Wisdom Vein, are inherent in the system of the Retribution Body, and is not a matter relating to the Layman’s Vow-body (physical body); once emptiness and selflessness are realized, the subtle energy (breeze/prana) naturally transforms into wisdom energy(prajna).
