Perhaps this is not Love, but is more precious than Love

Source: The Internet

The clock in the small Kaohsiung airport showed that it was six minutes to five o’clock. A tall stocky boy jumped out of a taxi and walked straight in from the entrance. He lifted up his darkish face and squinting, he looked at the time. His heartbeat was jumping to the extent that even he was scared, because it was out of his control. In another six minutes, he would meet a special woman. He had never met her before, but during the last seven months, she held the most important position. He stood at the spot closest to the place where passengers came out, hoping that he could recognise her by one look.

He still remembered the night when he was rushing to complete his report at the research centre. He was surrounded by computer paper statements, his brain was stuffed with figures, and both his legs were too tired to even go out for a bowl of noodles. However, he still sat in front of the computer, composing an e-mail to tell her his present fretful mood. He quickly received her reply: ‘I hope that you can obediently go and have something to eat, to stay strong and healthy. You’ll be in a good mood after the exams, and you can take me out to watch the sunset in the south.’ He warm-heartedly continued to write his report, knowing that there was a girl from afar, who felt nervous for him staying up late. All of a sudden, his mood of frustration and boredom did not reappear for the rest of the night.

Today, this day had finally arrived, only 4 minutes to 5 o’clock, and it was real that he was about to take her to watch the sunset; he looked around everywhere uneasily. In this huge airport, travellers walked to and fro everywhere in a hurry. A girl walked up to him, with long long hair and a pair of green sunglasses placed across her chest. He stared at her, it was not the agreed style of glasses, and she was too young. She was only about 18 years old. But Xiao Yue told him that she was a very mature and a very old woman. So what, ‘I’m almost 30 years old.’ he lied to Xiao Yue. In fact, he had just passed his twentieth birthday.

His mind returned to that night again. On the Talk board of the cloud technology, he saw a message ‘Little gremlin, don’t keep paging me, big sister will be angry’ posted with a signature, being the one who always wanted to be superior, he shouted back. Unexpectedly Xiao Yue actually replied, and this was the start of the 7-month long exchange of e-mails. During this period of time, the exchange of e-mails continued without stopping, he even specially applied for the rather annoying Hinet. The purpose was, after arriving back home, he could continue receiving post that she sent.

Sometimes the computer crashed and for a long time it was not possible to go online, she still wrote letters to him. He therefore believed that they both loved each other. Even though he repeatedly asked for her photograph, she rejected this time after time, and the feeling really made him uncomfortable. But she explained, ‘If your feelings towards me are genuine, how I look shouldn’t be important. Even if I’m very pretty, I would think that you only love me because of my appearance, of course I don’t want that kind of love. If I look ordinary (you must accept that this is more possible), I would be afraid that you only correspond with me because you’re bored with using the computer and you’ve no other choices. Don’t request for my photo, as I’ll visit you when I travel south in the future. At that time, you can decide yourself. After our meeting, you can decide freely whether to continue....’

One minute left before 5 o’clock, he nervously lit up a cigarette. At this moment his heart was more nervous than Doom (remark: Doom is a 2005 science fiction action film) facing the last hurdle. A young girl with a pair of slender long legs walked towards him; her long fine hair tied up in a ponytail rested behind her small ears. She had a pair of bright and shining eyes; fine, beautiful and slightly curved eyebrows; and a pair of soft and tender lips, all beautifully positioned on the well-balanced oval-shaped face. She wore a light white T-shirt and looked like the most wonderful spring scene in the world. He started walking towards her, totally forgetting to notice that she was not wearing sunglasses. The girl saw him. With both eyebrows lifted and the corner of her mouth slightly raised, she made a naughty expression, both teasing and surprising.
“Shall we call a taxi together?  I’m going to the Hanshin department store.” she said softly. He could no longer control himself to move closer to her because he saw Xiao Yue.

She came out from standing behind the girl, at least 30 to 40 years old. She was not only plump, wore wrinkled clothes, had messy hair, and stood on a pair of old-fashioned high heeled shoes with the pair of thick legs. She was in complete lack of modern look, and looked like a mother who had just given birth. However, there was a pair of CK glasses resting on her forehead. The girl in T-shirt swiftly walked away. He hoped that he could split into two halves, on the one hand he could cajole with the girl in the white T-shirt; but he also hoped to meet Xiao Yue. Her spirit had always accompanied him, encouraged him, and now she was in front of his eyes. The pale white, yet full face, both tender and alert, he now realised, her eyes were filled with the light of compassion and warmth.

Without hesitation, he held the PC Home magazine firmly in his hand so that she could recognise him. Perhaps this is not love, but is more precious than love, the rarer kind of friendship!  He would appreciate and firmly remember forever. He stretched his chest to say hello, showing his magazine to the woman. Although he had summoned his courage to speak, deep down he was still troubled by bitter disappointment.
“May I ask... are you Xiao Yue?  I’m so pleased to meet you, may I... take you to watch the sunset?”
The woman’s face showed a hearty smile. “Handsome man!  I don’t know what’s going on really?” she replied.
“The girl wearing the T-shirt, the one who just walked in front of me, she sat next to me on the aeroplane. She asked me to wear the sunglasses on my head. She said if you invited me to watch the sunset, I should then tell you, she’s waiting for you at the Sunrise bookstore in the airport.”

Postscript:
Isn’t this a very good ending?  Perhaps sincerity is the origin of everything. This story was passed onto me by a friend. I do not know who the original author is, but this is a very good short story, which I hope you (both male and female) like as well. I like the ideas of main male character very much!  Perhaps this is not Love, but is more precious than love, the rarer kind of friendship!  He would appreciate and firmly remember forever!

I also feel that to love a person must be simple and natural!  Not to change according to his (her) appearance, fame and status!  ‘The Declaration of Love’ by Qi-qin mentions: I believe in a baby’s eyes, I don’t believe in the heart that can be deceiving; I believe in genuine relationships that manifests in times of adversity, I don’t believe in forever tenderness!

Further Postscript:
Our Rinpoche was born with a handsome face, with a tall broad stature, and with intellectual and gentle manner....... When Rinpoche was young, a lot of people came to request for Buddhist Dharma from him, many of those were especially young men and women. Once, some disciples of the inner circle heard Rinpoche saying jokingly, “Do they genuinely come here to learn Buddhist Dharma from me?  Or do they here just for a chat with me?  I’ll put them to test!!”
Once, Rinpoche, for no reason whatsoever, said two sentences in a colloquial way. Upon hearing this, a few young men and women who were present at the time, have never shown up since then until now in 2010.
There was another time, Rinpoche grew a beard all over his face, those who have never met him before, would have recognised him as a European!  At the time, some disciples after seeing this, said, “So horrible, not pleasing at all!”
Oh!  They forgot Rinpoche is not an ordinary person, but a highly cultivated and enlightened Rinpoche. Growing a beard is Rinpoche’s own personal affair, and yet they still want to interfere in!! Rinpoche kept a full face of beard for half a year. Oh dear, a few more males and females ran away. Rinpoche has used a lot of different methods to test those disciples who appeared to be learning Dharma, they were really 100% proven accurate. After more than thirty years, still many people remain here now, they are the disciples who have been thoroughly tested and have undergone serious training!!!

Perhaps this is not love, but is more precious than love, a rarer relationship between Guru and disciple!  Rinpoche will appreciate and firmly remember forever!!

Rinpoche said, “I’ll follow my Master’s advice!  Not to treat Buddhist Dharma as reciprocating a favour!!  The tantric dharma and mind are extremely precious, rare and difficult to find, and can only be given to those genuine Vajrayana Practitioners!!!”
